two paragraphs

I think that the concept of the photo is to not show any kind of emotion of the people or anything but to show the state of being between the two people. I think that the dark sky puts a dark and gloomy mood on the photograph causing the viewer to feel sad or grey. I also think that the way that the people are a lot smaller compared to the endless looking field of cotton makes the people look like they are a part of this cotton field not that the cotton field is a smaller point in the picture compared to them.

With that said in the last paragraph the first principle of design that I noticed is unity, because all of the colors mix in together and everything is about the same size making nothing stand out. I also think that repetition is also a principle as well as pattern because of repetition of color and size as well as the same size and shape.

I believe this image is successful because it shows good texture. If you look at this picture you can see a lot of contrasting lines and textures. The textures makes the image have much more meaning. The photographer was using movement. When I look at this picture my eye starts at the slanted tree then it moves back to the sun popping through the tree line.

This picture has a lot of contrasting lines. aIf you look at the lines of trees you are drawn to the crooked lines. I think she should have straightened the ground lines. Also though it had good contrast because the bottom of the picture if very dark and the top is light.

I believe this photo shows happiness. All the birds are snuggled in together. This picture emphasizes multiple different colors. Due to the bird's harsh, dark, and more neutral coloring, the bright and vibrant colors stand out even more than they normally would.

Most people view pigeons as a disgusting and annoying. The colors on the pigeons make them more distinct than they would normally appear. When you first look at the photo, you are in awe by the variety of colors. But when you take a closer look, you realize the birds are pigeons and the photographer used beauty to created additional dimension.

The Open Book

Cara Barer
I believe the main concept of this image is the emphasis on the book. Because the background of the image is black, the focus of the image is the open book. I think compositionally, what's successful is the way the book is open to where you can see a majority of the pages that are open and how it is spread out almost evenly.

Since the book pages are white and the background is black, the background emphases the book. I like the way the white book pages contrast against the black background, it makes me feel interested and curious.

Woman Holding the World on Her Shoulders

I believe this photo is successful compositionally. This photo shows a plastic women figure vacuuming with the world on her back. It also shows a atomic bomb going off in the background. Also this photo shows how the women is about to fall because the cord is rapped around her right foot. This represents how women during ww2 took the mens job and balance taking care of the house.
The Pod in this photo is proportion. In this photo the women is compared to the size of the globe and the vacuum. Also the woman is being emphasized in her pink dress. The background is dark green so her pink dress makes her pop out. Also she is emphasized because there is a dark shadow in front and behind the photo. And the woman is in the light area.
This photo is taken by Grace Weston

The Overseer

This Photo is named "The Overseer" by Grace Weston. This photo shows that some people that over see others believe that they are above everyone else and this is shown by in the background which is the sky.  This shows that the person is above everyone else because if the person is in the sky then they are above everyone else on the ground. Another thing that supports this being a photo of an overseer is because the person has an eyeball for a head. This supports my idea above because an overseer sees every little thing and with an eyeball as a head shows that they can see everything with their eye. The things that are successful in this photo is the thing that it is portraying. Everything works with each and it makes sense of being an overseer.

The principles of design that are in this photo are pattern, which is on the tie. It also has unity because of the blue sky in the background and the eye color. The clouds also work with the eye ball that is white. The colors that are in the photo help support the idea of the photo because the colors of the suit look like a regular workout fit and the sky is blue supports the idea of him being in above others.

The World on her Shoulders

This image by Grace Weston captures the essence of color in contrast to others. My eye immediately goes from the top corner, down the wallpaper, and to the globe. This was a very successful composition that included both opposing shapes and shading. Also, this image shows the idea of having the worlds problems on your shoulders. Proportion is shown with the woman and the globe on her back. Also, my eye was drawn to her dress which showed emphasis. The brown lines on the wall draw the eye to the tv, which carries the eye to the vacuum.

I see movement, emphasis, and proportion as the principals of design in this photo. I also like how the woman is off center in the photo and the vacuum is. Also if you look closely, some of the countries on the globe match her dress. Lastly, the lines on the wall create movement which help your eye flow through the photo more smoothly.

I believe that this photo by Hector Mediavilla is expressing that no matter rich or poor, you can still be classy and well put together.  The living arrangements in this photo are dirty and incredibly poor.  The photographer chose for the focal point of the photo to be a man that you can see is dressed very formal.  The contrast between the presented wealths in the photo make you wonder, Is that where the man lives?  Is he visiting someone?  What is he so dressed up for?  This photo makes you think while also showing how despite how someone may act put together, they could have a situation or a struggle that is hard or broken down.

Apart from the figurative composition, the physical composition is well put together.  The style of the man in comparison to the style of the living situation could be considered emphasis.  I also think that the colors are all darker shades and some neutrals that work well together thus creating a sense of unity.  This is also asymmetry because there is more going on in one side of the photo than their is on the other.  Overall I love this composition and the ideas that it presents.

I really like this composition. The car is the emphasis of the photo, its the first thing I saw. This Image looks so natural, they're a couple going through their everyday life. The picture has a 50s or 60s theme, judging by the car and the way the two people are dressed.
There is some asymmetry in the photo, its not completely symmetrical but the two sides, if split in the middle, would balance each other.  There is little movement and no repetition, rhythm,  or proportion. There is some unity in the photo. The way the picture was taken, and what goes on in the picture, it just feels like everything goes together.

I really like this image by Barbara Karant because I think it has a really interesting composition and I love the use of pattern and repetition and the lines carry your eye throughout the photo. In addition to this there is a lot of movement in this photo with the light that carries my eye across and then up and connects to the spiral in the background of the image.
Karant really emphasized the colors in this photo and brought out the reds. Because the majority of the photo is in different shades of black and white, the red is very prominent in the photo. The red areas also help to carry your eye to different spots of the photo and show a lot of variety. This photo made me think of chaos and stress because of the different shapes and my eye didn't know where to settle while looking at the image, the different shapes helped to enforce this. Red enforced this as well because it is a color frequently associated with stress.
Briony Campbell
I believe this photo was successful compositionally.  The concept of this image is a man feeding a bird.  The man holding the bird in this photo is very thin and he is giving the food he has to a bird.  In this photo the birds coloring is very similar to the wall behind it.  The colors in this photo are all in the same color scheme.  The bird in the photo has a row of purple feathers.  The purple feathers draw your eyes to the bird. The colors in this photo give it mellow tone.

This photo exemplifies movement.  Your eye are drawn to the row of purple feathers on the birds back and then to the rest of the bird.  Yours eyes are drawn though the bird into the mans hand and the up into his arms.  The birds purple feathers create emphasis that move your eyes into the mans hand exemplifying movement.

This photo to me shows movement and proportion. The concrete and the grass look in proportion to the ground. The way the angle photo was taken the ground looks even with the sky making the ground and sky looking like they are one. I also like how the photo only captures the ground and and the sky, nothing else. This is a great example of proportion.
This photo also shows movement because the ground appears to be endless. The smoke adds on to the grounds appearance because it blocks anything that is behind the smoke.  It is a great example of movement.

Taken by William West, this picture is successful because it has a nice color scheme, and it has been edited in a way that makes each color and shape pop.  The concept of this image is a flower as the only thing in this picture with the sky as a background. The colors complement each other, the yellow is emphasized against the white and the white pops against the blue, and i really like how the stem of the flower is black to match the insides of the petals.

This image is asymmetrical because of the stem on one side and not on the other. This photo shows unity because the stem goes toward the flower, and then the petals all lead to the center of the flower. I think this photo emphasizes the yellow in the middle of the flower because ether yellow is so bright and it has a noticeable texture.
This photo was taken by Eric Smith. I like this photo because it shows a sense of unity between two totally different types of people. The colors on both of their uniforms really pop out.  I also enjoy how you can't see their total face, it leaves a sense of mystery. Both of these men belong to groups of "hardcore" men and women who work hard fro what they want. However, these men are also extremely different but the handshake makes them somewhat equal.

I believe this photo is asymmetrical because if split in half it would not line up and they have unequal sides.  I also like the people in the background because it shows you that this is a real life setting.

I think that this photo by Nicholas Prior is very successful. I think this because of the story that it portrays. I think that the story the image tells is that you never know what is around the corner. For example in this photo the little girl looks like she is at her own house and was going to go inside and there were two burglars talking together. The little girl seems scared but also curious, wondering what she should do.

In this photo I think the emphasis is put on the little girl because she is in the front of the picture while the burglars are tucked in a corner. I also think that there is symmetry because the beam of the wall to the right pf the little girl is separating the girl from the burglars, if you were ti fold the photo in half, the edges would line up perfectly. This photo makes me want to find out what will happen to the little girl, just like a story. The colors in this photo are dark and it appears to be dreary outside. Therefore this photo's mood is sad, and scary.

This image represents how love is a radiant figure in life. I think the artist, Lia Nalbantidou, wants the viewer to see how in the darkness of times that love can shine through. In this image, you can see the farther part where it is all green and bright, so that could resemble where your challenges have ended and you are in the light. The colors on the heart brighten the dark surroundings to show a light in the challenges. This photo is successfully composed because it feels like there are two worlds merging in the darkness, and on each end there is something different happening. The sidewalk is like the path you have to walk and the darkness on the side of it resembles where you can fall off the path.

The colors of this image help to portray its meaning. The green on the right side is a neutral color and isn't generally associated with extreme feelings. To me, the green resembles a cool and balanced time.  The red and blue of the heart are extreme colors that represent opposite feelings. The red shows love, but the blue generally shows sadness, so putting those colors together can show that love can be hard sometimes but is generally good because the red is the brighter and more radiant color.

This photo by Grace Weston appeals to me in many different ways. I think this photo is interesting because it is called "Happy Hour" but there is a headless man and a bad storm in the window. He has work clothing on and an alcoholic drink, so I assume that he came home from a long day of work. It is called happy hour because of the alcoholic drink. Sometimes people drink to try to calm themselves from hardship or stress. So the man is lost in work and the world and the world is in destruction around him but he is drinking to try to find himself again, calming himself.

The photo also has many different elements. On the walls there is a cherry pattern, which gives color and some crisp accents. There is unity within the man. The man's clothing matches and all leads to himself as a whole, a center point. There is varierty because many elements are expressed. Unity and pattern. These two elements are puzzle pieces with each other to make variety.

This image is a perfect representation of emphasis and unity. The whole image is focused on the chair and it has multiple principles of design.  I really like the landscape in the image too. I like how it is focused on the floaty chair directly in the center. That is the emphasis. The unity is shown because the bridge has repetition, the reflection of the plants is amazing, and there is almost a little bit of asymmetry with the dark shadow over the floaty and some of the surrounding water.

I really like the colors in this image as well. It gives me a nice cool feeling looking at it with the shady space and then the open, colorful space. It really helps because blues are cool colors and yellows are hot, bright colors. It all really ties together with all the multiple principles of design and the color coordination.

This photo was taken by Grace Weston. It photo represents how the entire world depends on women. Therefore the lady in this picture is carrying the world on her back. The T.V. in the back shows a bomb going off on the screen. This may be because its during WWII. I think this because the clothes the lady is wearing and the decorations o the room. Also this lady is vacuuming, I think this is because it's a earlier time when all women were aloud to do was clean and cook in the house.

The color in this picture really makes it special. The lady's dress makes her stand out from the dreary wall. Also the globe she is carrying on her back is full of color. I think the photographer wanted to emphasize her and the world. The lighting is another important factor in the photo. Its almost as if the light is coming from a window to her right. When I look at the photo I don't feel happy or sad. I kind of feel serious when I look at it, because there is a serious underlying meaning. In the back round there is a pattern on the wallpaper.

Color and Composition

by: Patrick Taberna

I believe this photo was successful compositionally.  The concept of the image is a girl jumping.  It appears as though the girl is jumping over the wide area of grass.  She is not performing a "High School Musical"jump, instead she is curled up in the air.  Her jump is very determined.  This girl is proportional in the image as well.  The background is very vast and large, whereas the girl appears to be a very small figure suspended in the air.  I would also argue this as variety.  The parallel lines of the grass field go back and are convergent with the horizon. The horizon line also slopes down in the same direction the girl is facing in her jump.  The girl also stands out against the background-as in emphasis.
The composition has almost muted and drab colors.  Although the colors of the background may be bright and beautiful in person, they do not appear so in the image.  The muted colors of the background are coupled with the dull colors of her outfit.  The girl is wearing jeans, brown sneakers, and a brown jacket.  Her hands seem to be clenched in fists.  Her hair is also brown.  The dullness of the colors makes it seem that something is missing form the composition. It gives the impression that something is wrong in an otherwise beautiful place. It is almost as if because the sun is not shining, the inhabitants of the area are also missing their spark.

Color Expression

by: Michelle Arcila

I believe this photo is successful compositionally as it has a mellow feel to it that it pleasing and calming to look at.  The concept of this photo is a young girl.  Her head ends right under one of the lines and looks nice proportionately.  The lines are all parallel and form a simple and structured background.  The white background contrasts with the dark shadow on her shirt and her figure, emphasizing her.  The blue-grey color of her shirt ties in with her dirty blonde hair that also has a grey-ish tint.  When I first look at the photo, she looks older, but as i move from her hair to her shirt and arm, she becomes much younger and naive.  The redness of her arm makes her look little and vulnerable.
The colors reinforce the concept as they transform her from a woman into a little girl.  Without the soft, blue-grey of her shirt and the dirty blonde bounce of her curls, she could be 5 years old or 30. This picture, while looks very nice, makes me a feel sad.  Even though you cannot see the girl's face, the way her head is tilted down, combined with the dull color of her shirt create a melancholy image of a sad, little girl.
this image represents emphasis and variety because of the many colors in it but it focuses on the man and his lovely pet i like the expression on his face in this photo and its him in his home which is a little messy but i like i t because its natural and everyone has a messy home. i like the composition

you have to move your eyes around a lot you do focus on the man and his pet but the background is so busy that your eye moves around it has a little bit of movement because of the many objects.
i like the wood background a lot because it contrasts with the objects in the background.

This photo represents movement because when i first looked at the picture my eye moved all over in a circle. The white lights really pop and make the picture amazing. My vision of movement is where I look at a picture and the picture moves all over the page. This picture definitely describes movement.

I feel like this photo could be rhythm because the picture looks like its twinkling. To me, rhythm is where objects are one after the other and they look like rhythm. I really like how this photographer shot this photo because it looks really really good. This is one of my favorite pictures on my blog.

The general concept of this picture is too feel a sense of unity between the tall rich skyscrapers and the poor houses in the foreground. I think that this picture is unified because of the colors. My eye moves around this photo because of the white building in the middle that breaks up the photo. That allows you to focus on the color and different textures of the buildings. The bottom of the photo has a different felling than the top; it is incomplete and imperfect compared to the top of the image. The top of the image is well put together and complete. I feel like this image can be relatable to lots of spectators. This image is common but I like how it tells a story and depicts in a different way the difference of social classes. The different textures in this picture show various social classes because the foreground in rough and patchy while the background is modern clean and has repetitive shapes and colors.

This picture shows a destructive child destroying apples. The colors in this photo are darker and show a destructive side. The child's face looks as if he was yelling showing his emotion towards the apples. This photo shows emphasis on the child and this photo also shows some variety. The child shows emphasis because he is the only thing in the photo showing a bright yellow color. Variety is shown because of the different elements represented in this photo.

This apples in this picture are very red which can represent the child's aggressiveness towards the apples. The green in the back of the photo creates a creepy mood aswell making the image a bit more mysterious.
